Will a Brita or Pur remove chlorine or metals?

If you filter your tap water w/ a household filter - is it still necessary to add something w/ weekly water changes to remove the nasty stuff?

If so what do you recommend?
THANKS!

It really depends on what you mean by 'nasty stuff'. The Brita filters will remove chlorine, but not chloramines, and they won't remove phosphates or nitrates. Check with your water utility to see what's there, at what levels, and go from there.
