when i am comfortable with my tank being stable and established (it'll be a few weeks at the least), i plan on adding a few fish. i would love to add four rams and at least one angelfish. my concern is, would a large school of tetra constantly nip the angel? also, how do the experts feel about a single angelfish? is there room for more than one (current tank described in signature)?

thanks!

I would do 1 angelfish and 2 rams for now. I think that would make for a nice tank. Make sure to get a male/female pair of rams, and either 1 or 3+ angelfish. A single angel is just fine. Angelfish dont do well in pairs unless they are proven breeders, as they might pick on each other too much if they dont like each other. Having more than 3 will spread aggression. A 50 gallon tank will be good for angelfish, although they can get very large.

I wouldn't worry about the tetras nipping the angelfish, but more the angelfish eating the tetras when they get large enough, (although that wont happen for a while).

I suppose by the time that happens, the angels will need feeder fish anyway -- they can clear the space for more angels by snacking on the tetra. what a horrible, horrible hobby I endulge in.

Just for the sake of arguement, if i did go with more than two rams, would it be better to get 2 male and 2 female, or 1 male and 3 female?

I'd go with 2 male and 2 female and hope that they eventually form pairs :)

Also, I don't see a need to feed angels feeder fish even when they are larger

Yeah feeder fish generally aren't very good, often can contain diseases and pollute the tank because of the waste they produce.

If you cant find a pair then do what darkblade suggested and try to form a pair. You might get some excess fighting between the two males though. Try to find a pair in the pet store. :)
