australian mud bugs?

i saw a movie made in australia where a lady went diving in a muddy lake and came up with something that looked like a small clawless lobster. cooked them and ate them. i seem to recall
they were called mudbugs. if they eat them, are they exportable or endangered? anybody know about them?

What you are referring to is a popular seafood here in Australia. We call them bugs, but in Asia they are called Slipper Lobster. They are found in coastal bays. I live in Brisbane and we have "Moreton bay bugs". In Sydney they have "Balmain Bugs". As they live in saltwater bays, I'm not sure if they can live in freshwater...perhaps brackish. I wish I could be of more help but I've never seen anyone in Aust keep them in aquariums. They only place I've seen them here are packed on ice in seafood shops!

i bought one at a lfs in columbia south carolina, its purpleish/cream and is really pretty, it molted this weekend. i love it,,,,,its soo cool :)
