Very nice MQP... How hard is it to breed bettas? I've heard you're the master of em. ;)

Thank you all for the compliments :)
Panzer: I'm hardly a master, but I do enjoy doing it...Bettas are a little harder then most fish, because so much can go wrong and frequently does :(

Richer: They are around 1.5 inches long end to end. The second fish is a bit bigger...Maybe 1" 3/4 pushing 2 inches...Still too small to sell...

Queen Pixie: can you give me some detailed steps in regards to breeding bettas? Would you advise breeding my pet store betta? I've heard these fish are pretty "mixed" already.

TJ I don't have any current pics of the parents yet...If I can snap a couple of decent ones i'll post them.

Betta man: These babies are the product of two common veil tails that came from Big ALs...Almost all the babies have atleast single crown tails, some double crowns. Atleast one of the parents carries this trait somewhere in their genes...I have just spawned their father to another unrealted female...I'll keep you posted as to wether those babies also display those traits also. I have no idea if they are going to stay compact and "crowny" or develop into veils...

I LOVE the colour on the last one! I also love his little puggy nose. Bettas are such lovely fish.

How many babies in total do you have? And how in the world will you bear to part with any of them???

nice brood MQP!

I have just taken up breeding bettas. I currently have 3 males and 2 females (one of which is very nice! all white with a red and blue tail). the females are all still somewhat young though, but one of them has the little "white spot" that means she is ready to spawn right? should I add the male to the females tank or vice versa?

on a side note, you have any thoughts about treating a fungus? it just appeared overnight and spread over one whole side of his body. currently I'm just giving him a salt bath every 2 hours and changing his water 3 times a day (I've placed him back in the little jar for now).

thanks for sharing the pics!

KVEEI: Ugh, I don't know...I hate to sell them..You get so attached to them when they are little...I feed them 4 times a day and change their water every other day so I spend alot of time with them...I know i'm gonna be like one of those "cat women" Jars EVERYWHERE!

RJL: The white spot just means she is a female...If you condition her like crazy for 2 weeks and place her near a mail (not in the tank) she will get some strong vertical stripes if she is ready...There are some other things that the females do, but that is the most obvious. Check out www.bettatalk.com for a ton of info on breeding. Re the fungus thing, I have never had it, but I have heard that the "jungle fungas cure" is good...Maintaining excellent water quality is very important in avoiding alot health problems with these fish.

ONNA: "The Dork" and the "Fat Lady?" Well, they spawned like crazy and as usual Dork ate the eggs! I think i'm gonna try a "surrogate daddy" the next time around

MQP - WOW! I'm so impressed and the little babies are adorable!

How long do you keep them before they are ready to go to a new home? And speaking of, how could you let them go???

You'll just have to keep them all! :D
