I seem to have a slightly whitish haze on the surface of my 33 gal tank. It kind of looks like a thin dust layer and its starting to filter out some of the light coming in. I have tried to get rid of it through water changes to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi, I've had this problem on my 5 gallon tank aswell. its no biggy, but not cool to have. you can get some newspaper, or some paper towel, and lay it on the surface for a few seconds and that should absorb most of it. Repeat is neccesary. The cause of this, is not enough surface irritation. do you have an underwater filter? or maybe your filter is not turned up all the way.

Hope that helps.

I'd use the paper towels...don't know if the ink in newspaper could be harmful.

My auratus is in my kitchen. any time we cook sausage, hamburger or anything greasy we need to clean the tank the next day because of the film on top of the water. And in spring we get pine pollen on the surface of all our tanks. If you have a net with VERY VERY fine mesh you can skim most of it out.

I assume you are, but just in case: always turn your stove fan on when cooking, its not intended to simply clear out "smells" but to clear oil particles which are temporarily put into the atmosphere while cooking on a stove.

The only one in the kitchen is the auratus, and he likes 'em rare!!!!!!!!!

We do use the exhaust fan, but our house is from the 20's and it doesn't work too good. It does let you know just how much of that grease is getting on the surfaces arround the kitchen, including ourselves and the dogs.
