I have had an Electric Yellow Chiclid in my tank for about a month now. The cycle has had time to finish and Ive done water changes regularly. So today I decided to add two more of the electric yellows. I got one male and one female. The problem is now that the female I had in the tank is bigger and now that I added these two they seem to hide up in the corner away from the female. The male looked okay at first, but now he is darkening and I dont know what is going on?

Try rearanging the tanks rocks and decorations. That way no one will have a territory and it will lessen aggression. Of course you might just have a aggressive female and if she makes herself a new territory the other 2 might be up in the corner again. Also how do yo uknow you have a male and female? Have you seen them breed or were they vented? Just asking because yellow labs are pretty much impossible to sex by looks(Some say there are clues but i've seen females that are actually males and "dominate males" that actually turned out out to be females. So i wouldnt' just go by looks)

How large is this tank? any other tankmates or just the yellows? What kind of decorations do you have. Is there enough room and hiding spots for everyone to find their own territory?

For now there are only 2-3 places to hide. I am getting some slate to arrange more places. I have a couple pieces of sandstone and a rock with a hole from walmart. The tank is 10 gallon because thats what I had in storage here. Im not planning on getting anymore fish for this tank, just these three. And they are all the same yellow electrics. No other tank mates.

10 gallon will be too small for these fish. Yellow labs will need at least a 33 gallon, as they each reach a size of over 4" in length.

A 10 gallon can hold fry under 1" for a month or so, but as soon as they reach 1" in length they will need to be upgraded to at least a 20 gallon "long" and then to a larger tank when they reach 2"+.

Yellow labs, like most africans are aggressive and need large tanks. 10 gallon just wont do.

I also agree that a 10 is way too small. Even though they're often touted as less-aggressive than most africans, yellow labs are still africans and a 10 provides insufficient area for even one, IMO.

Jim
