I need some advice..
I have a 29g tank with 5 neons, 2 loaches, 2 rainbow sharks and 4 aquatic frogs. I bought a small angel fish(alittle bigger than a quater) and put it in there everything was going fine, ive had it in there for about a month now. Last night when i went to feed my froggies their bloodworms i noticed that one of my frogs had a very puffy eye. This morning the first thing i did was go check on my frogs and i saw the angel attacking the frog and literally sucking at its eye..it sucked the frogs eye right out :sad has anyone ever heard of such a thing??

I have put the angel in the breeder net thingy to keep it away from my other frogs until i get it a tank.

My question is...is there anyway my frog can survive blind? and if not what is a humane way to put him down :sad

Thanks for any help and suggestions.
DeAnna

****, really sorry bout that mate, i wouldnt normally suggest putting frogs with any fish, especially angels as they love to peck eyes and fins (of other fish for fins ;) )

Is he blind in one eye now or both, if its both i suggest you may have to let him go somehow, sorry again :(

I'm not too sure about the frogs but you are going to run into problems eventually with the rainbow sharks by having 2 of them.... As they age/mature, the spats over territory will be deadly. Also, as the Angel grows/matures, your neons are doomed, they are a natural prey for the Angelfish.

If he is blinded only in one eye, he can adapt. If he is blinded in both eyes, he still may, but he'll need lots of care and extra help along the way and even then, it may not be enough. Yes, there are humane ways to put an amphibian down. Freezing most herps does the trick. They simply sleep and then systems shut down. There is an article on fish euthanization in the articles forum, but amphibians are slightly different and metabolize things much differently than fish, so the clove oil may or may not be as effective.

:( after catching him in the net and having a good look at him he is blinded in both eyes :sad

the angel and one of the sharks is definetly getting their own tank..i just love those little frogs and am so upset that i caused one of them terrible injury by putting in something that would harm them :sad

to bad, we all feel awful when we 'hurt' are aqua pets. The frog can do fine blind in one eye, maybe both, but any weaker fish gets the eyes eaten out. I've had totally blind cory's live just fine, but I don't think you should mix the frogs and angels. Angels can be aggressive, I,ve found....Good Luck....

I recently purchased two angels, and I regret it already. The things are absolute terrors. They harass all my other fish. :mad2
They're territorial (like all cichlids), and can be VERY agressive if they're defending what they consider 'their' territory. How big is the tank?
My angel is an absolute pussycat, and he's mellowing more with age. I think their level of agressiveness may vary with individual fish, as well as their surroundings.

DeAnnaChristine - I think you have a good plan, removing one of the rainbow sharks and the angel. Sorry to hear about your frog, I hope s/he survives and adapts.

Wow, I have NO explanation for that other than personality. I'm so sorry to hear they're being horrible - mine's very peaceful, and a joy to own and watch, but if he was continually terrorizing the rest of the tank he'd be back at the LFS faster than you can say 'bye bye angelfish'. I wonder if anyone in the cichlid forum could help you find a way to reduce their agression. The only thing I can think of right now is to try rearranging some of the decor - this will force them to re-establish their territory and sometimes helps calm things down. Keeping more top/midwater fish might also help - I don't know much about dither and target fish, just that with agressive cichlids they're helpful in spreading the agression around :)
