i have recently made a steal lighting hood and i recon it was the easiest thing i have ever constructed. I bought a 2.4 meter lenght of metal in a righ angle shape and cut it in the middle, making two identical 1.2m right angled pieces. I then stuck them together making a box without a bottom. Using screws I then stuck two ligth tube holders in it. The whole thing looks awsome and it only took me about 1 hr. It cost me 30 au dollars and one from the shops cost 120.

post some pics if you can.

Her you go, just took some pics of it on my new tank. The first one is what it looks like when it is standing normal, and the second is when its tilted to its side so you can see the lights.

thanks, and it is REALLY easy to make, i can write up a step-by-step build plan if you want. The best part is that it saves you so much money!

I have just upgraded my light so that I now have 3 lengths of flourecent tubes in my 120cm aquarium. The light is really strong and I hope this will benifit my live rock etc..

It's really easy, ehy. I live in australia so the prices are in AUD.

First I went to the hardware store and got flourecent light holders, my tank is 120cm long, so I got

x1 doubble flourecent tube holder for $50 And I also had 1 lenght already made from my last aquarium so I have 3 lenghts now*

I bought x2 180cm sheets of flashing for $11 each, which is a right angled piece of metal measuring 10cm wide on both sides. Screwed them together so they made a box without a bottom, and screwed the fllourecent holders in there. Then I added aquarium light sticks, and then it was done. The pictures show how the box has no bottom but it is very obvious.

Sorry for my lack of beeing able to describe things but if you need more information just post and I will do what I can.
