My favorite part of my job--this is an annual event allowing everyone to bring in game they've collected, their best recipes and share. This year, we have:

Elk Chili
Mustard fried Antelope
BBQ Moose (all time fave!)
Pheasant enchilada soup (spicy!)
Elk Nachos
Cheddar baked Halibut
Elk summer sausage
Muley ka-bobs
Elk enchiladas
Smoked Salmon and smoked salmon dip
Elk stew

In previous years, there's been turtle soup, mountain lion stew, frog legs, elk fajitas, moose burgers, elk stir fry, roadkill soup (green chili, oh-my-heavens it's awesome!), various flavors of smoked suasage and salami, turkey/pheasant/goose/duck soups...Lots of tasty foods. Every now and then there's something that's not very tasty--the summer sausage this year has a bitter taste, the turtle soup had too many "I don't want to identify this" bits, but overall, it's neat to get to try a variety of foods.

Yep, mostly just posting to brag about the great lunch I just had. :) But--what fun activities does your office do each year outside the normal holidays? The things that you'd miss if you changed jobs, the things you try to schedule to participate in instead of avoid!

we do one of those too, we have a "old-time" lunch and call it "Central Perk" where everyone from the floor (about 100+) people all bring in something from their upbringing, whether it be ethnic or not, just something that they have memories of and we all bring it in to share with the rest.... and everyone mingles around for the afternoon talking about their food and stories from home and stuff..... it's a lot of fun and you get some really interesting food.

One of the fun things I will miss when I leave my job is "Wet Downs". When somebody gets promoted to the next rank they have a get together called a "Wet Down'. The tradition goes that the person who gets promoted takes the difference of the pay increase and throws a party with it. I had a lot of good times at them. :D

ahh yes, my brother is in the airforce, and they go out a lot when that happens, and they throw GOOD PARTIES!

huh? so if you make 40k and get promoted to 50k your expected to throw a 10k party? that doesn't make sense...

If I ever find a new job (always looking!) there is absolutely NOTHING here that I will miss, aside from the free postage (I sit next to the mailroom ;) )... this place stinks.

I've been working out of my home for 3 years now and I still don't miss going to work!! :dance

I guess I really do miss peanut days at my last job. We would get the company to buy a few bushels of fresh (raw) peanuts and we would set up 2-3 propane cookers with HUGE pots to boil them in. This would all have to start at around 5am to have them ready by noon. We'd make Cajun flavored, hot ones as well as others cooked with pigs feet or bacon and then a pot of plain/salted............Someone would always manage to sneek a few beers in too. Quite often we's fry a turkey or two when the peanuts were finished! There would be peanut shells ALL OVER the building. We need a drooling smile :D

It is based off monthly income. Let's say you make $ 5000 a month (to include entitlements) and with the promotion your pay goes up to $5500 a month. Then the party should be about $500 out of your pocket.

On my last promotion the difference was $300 and three of us got promoted at the same time. So we combined our money and bought the bar for a night. Oh that was a good night, but the next morning was rough. :D
