Going away for about 2 weeks. Do time release feeders (can't think of the technical name) work?

My alternative is to create 12 packets of food for a sitter to feed each day I'm gone. I have african dwarf frogs that reqire special attention to make sure their eating (feeding with a baster) and i am trying to keep the whole process as simple as possible.

I've never left my fish for more than a couple of days, are there other considerations I should have? I am assuming that the 9 inches of fish (mostly bottom feeders, betta and a molly with 4 frogs) in a 15 g, slightly planted tank (started in OCT 2004) should be stable enough to leave with minimal care. (ooo run-on sentence!)
Or am I on crack?
thanks,
Lisa

I would go for the pre-measured meals route. Hide all other food so the person cant feed them more because the fish "still look hungry". Im assuming these fish are all adults, so maybe just leave enough for them to be fed every other day. The less they eat the better, you dont need a disaster happening when you arent around.

Agree, small packets of food, with directions on giving it to the tank, will work best. I always have my sitter come over, go through a verbal walk through of the process, then I watch them feed the tank.

The feeder blocks won't last that long, often cause cloudiness and may impact water hardness. They also don't have food the frogs will eat.

I used the feeder blocks once. The power went out wwhen I was away and the heater shut down, so the block didn't even dissolve. If you are going away fro more than a couple of days it is always best to have a person show up every so often, just to check and make sure filters are still running, temps are good, top off water.
