I have a 10 gal, sufficient filtration, well cycled by now after 5 months stocked with 10-15(#'s vary week to week) regular old guppies and 1 CAE.
they all seem very happy and healthy.

the tank receives no direct sunlight and very little filtered natural light, I have no lamp on the tank hood. i have noticed that i have had very little algae growth, only a little brown algae on top of one of my fake anachrist.
My CAE does eat some of the flake food that falls to the bottom but has never shown any interest in algae wafers until today, i haven;t put one in for a couple months. I put in a half of one today and he is munchin on it and sitting on top to chase away the guppies who would devour it!

here is my Q?
should I worry that the CAE is not getting enough algae in his diet and continue to give him wafers about every month and half to two months?
does he need more?
do I need more NATURAL SUNLIGHT to get more algae?

I have to admit that it is real nice having the tank look so clean and clear all the time.

Sorry to be so long winded and Thank You-
Mike

If it likes the wafers then I'd be sure to toss in a wafer or two from time to time.

But CAEs aren't really dedicated algae-eaters to begin with. They usually will eat algae when young and then not so much.

Fishbase has this…

Mostly herbivorous, feed largely on algae, periphyton and phytoplankton, but also take insect larvae or zooplankton.

Aquarium keeping: needs plant feed; adults territorial; in groups of 5 or more individuals; minimum aquarium size 60 cm

So that's keep a some greenery in the diet, but don't worry too much about cultivating algae and a 10g is on the small side of the coin for the bioload and for that guy in particular.
