bottom dwelling zebra danios

I just got my tank ready to bring home a few fish this week (with a lot of help from my lfs) and I now have 2 zebra danios in a 10 gallon. From my research I was of the understanding that they would be very active and stay near the top of the tank, but instead they just hang out in the bottom back corners of the tank where it is dark and safe. They never go higher than halfway to the surface. Is this normal activity for a new tank or is there an undesirable variable to be accounted for?

Thanks for the clue. Once my tank has cycled and I am ready for more delicate fish I may replace the danios completely anyways, but I'm still not sure. I guess as longs as it isn't a sign of stress or sickness, I'm ok with it for now.

Hello,

Being the new fish in the tank, they may take a few days to build confidence and investigate their new surroundings.

Like yourself, I have a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium and began with a couple of zebra danios...they were quite lively after a few days and over the course of a couple months I purchased a few more.
I eventually took them all back to the local pet store and payed a few extra bucks for some rummy nose tetras. They are absolutely the best schooling tetra in my own sporadic fish keeping experience ;) The bolivian ram I bought a month after that felt right at home with the rummy nose tetras.

enjoy your tank,
