OK, I'm going to buy a few easy to grow live plants today. I have a few questions. My tank is a 20 gallon with overkill size canister filter, I am buying reverse flow power head today also for my UGF. I know I need to fertalize so will get that too. I know I need 40 to 60 watts of light, need to check that. My two main questions are: My PH and Alkalynity are high, as high as my test kit goes. As far as this goes I have heard my plants and fish will die in an hour to neither matter and don't worry about it. I was also wondering if I will need a DIY CO2 injector for this tank. thanks guys Oh, if I do need to lower the Alkalynity and PH I really am lost as to how. If adding soft water from my household water softner won't do it, then what would be best way? Adding chemicals doesn't seem to do it unless I need to add a lot more

Give us numbers!!!!! It amazes me how people can ask for responses without telling us what their water's parameters are.
pH,gH,kH, out of the tank and out of the tap. Let the tap water sit for a couple of hours on the counter before testing.

PH out of tank or tap is as high as my test kit goes 8.5, Alkalinity is as high as test kit goes, 300, total hardness is 100 out of tank and 250 out of tap, nitrate and nitrite are way in the safe zone
