Hello, everyone!
Two days ago I’ve added a pair of German blue rams to my aquarium and last night I spotted a male scratching, I also spotted that well-known white spot on one of my neon tetras and assume I am at the beginning of an Ich outbreak. There are also two otos in the tank, but they are not yet effected. Considering that blue rams are still getting used to the new environment and act a bit stressed, I know that I should be extremely cautious with what I put in my tank now. I have several medications in mind and need to make a choice. One of the meds is Herbal remedy by Kordon called Ich Attack. I’ve used it before, but it takes forever to work and obviously it works more as preventative measure then the actual cure. Still, I consider it to be the safest way. The second medication I might use is Ich Guard 2 by Jungle that is supposed to be safe for all fish and plants, but I don’t know how rams would react to formalin, which is the main ingredient. I also have Coppersafe and Aqurisol. Both contain cooper, which may harm my plants and/or fish. I’ve never tried elevated temperature treatment because consider it to be very risky. I don’t want to use salt ether, because it might be dangerous for otos. I elevated the temperature to 82F to speed up the life cycle of the parasite and need to start treatment very soon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
F.
