Hey, I'm helping my friend stock a 10g (she is picky) and she wants a cute, colorful, fish with a personality. She likes tiger barbs, but, is there anything that you suggest she could have? Pics are helpful....Also, anything smaller than 3" is more appropriatte for her.

Help!

what about platies or guppies? they are very colorful and you can mix more with them than with tiger barbs. Or you could use neons, whiteclouds, or lemon tetras !
maybe a nice betta? there's a lot you can go with :D

(this is DGs friend typing) thanks for the tips, I have no interest in platies or guppies, tetras, or whiteclouds, actually. Is there anything else? I have no passion towards bettas, but thanks for the reply!

Or if you want to drop a few bucks and get a load of color look into getting a killiefish - i don't know a lot about them but i'm sure you could house one in a 10g - maybe someone else can provide more info but there colors are comparable to salt water fish for certain types of killies - look at their colors on the species profiles

I personally don't like barbs in a 10 gallon tank, they're vary active swimmers that needs alot of space and schooling fish that should be kept in groups of 6 or more.

A pair of blue ram dwarf cichlids would work in a 10 gallon, very beautiful fish under full spectrum light. Other dwarf cichlids, like shell dwellers, can work as well though a few are aggressive and should be kept by themselves.

I always liked cories, pandas and albinos are my favorite.

What's wrong with neons? Theyre tetras but theyre really colourful and have loads of character. The most colourful and characterful (is that a word?) fish I have seen are rosy barbs but they really need loads of swimming room otherwise I think they can get fungus and stuff.

i just HATE neon tetras....they are so fragile with their water conditions and they have been really poor quality lately, they just are boring to me too. Just my opinion though.

EDIT: I really like the look of the blue ram dwarf cichlids, they are soo cute, and beautiful. Thanks for the tips! What else could go with the rams?

Why not just have a look around in your LFS until you see a fish that catches your eye. Then you can find out if it is compatible or not. Better than trying to let everyone else guess what you might like I would have thought.
