It's been about 3 weeks since I've run any water tests on the tank so I thought I'd check it out today. All the tests came out perfectly, ammonia, nitrite & nitrate were all at 0, finally!
We took a trip to a lfs and bought some sand since we've been thinking perhaps the sand bed hasn't been deep enough on the top for the plenum to function properly. Just a theory. So we added 20 lbs. of CaribSea's Arag Alive Reef Sand and 15 lbs. of Aragonite Fiji Pink (it doesn't look pink) Reef Sand, some of each bag also went into the 55g tank. The tank looks great...now we just need some fish to liven it up! I'm ready to go shopping!

We bought some fish yesterday. Two beautiful lyretail anthias and two small percula clowns. They all appear healthy and are eating pretty much anything I offer them, frozen Prime Reef cubes, flakes and small pellets. Off to a good start!

One of my anthias fish died last night. After lights out I noticed he was hanging out on the bottom in the open, not hiding to sleep like they normally do. He was gasping and looked awful. There appeared to be contusions on his head and on his side that I never noticed before. They may have been there but they weren't visible when the fish was all colored up. After the lights go out their color fades so I could see the abrasions very clearly. Sure enough, he was dead within a few hours. Poor fishy. I hate when that happens. :(

On the brighter side, the two clowns and the other anthias still appear to be healthy. I hope.
