I turned my Emerald Corys into shallow feeders

Hi

No matter what I do, my Emerald Green Corys simply will not eat the dried shrimp pellets that I've thrown into the bottom of the tank; even after severals hours (through the night), the pellets sit untouched - now swollen. Instead, they seem to prefer the blood worms and flakes that I feed my tetras and guppies - thereby totaly negating the purpose of having bottom feeders. What is wrong with them? Is there something that I should've done with the pellets before I dropped them? For your info, the corys are about 5 days old now (their time spent in tank), and as I've indicated, they are eating, just not the type of food that I want them to (I've since tried 3 different kinds of bottom feeder foods, all useless) Thanks.

Your not giving them enough time to get used to what may be to them an entirely new food. No fish that I know of is going to like having three new foods thrown at them over a period of five days. Heck five days isn't even enough time to let them get used to their new tank. Don't feed any fish in the tank for a couple of days (they can easily handle this), then just feed the type of food you want the cories to eat until they start eating it. Then you can slowly start feeding your other foods again.

The prupose of having bottom feeders is to make sure that they eat whatever leftover food there may be from your other fish. It sounds like that is exactly what they are doing. Again, BE PATIENT!

They are actually swimming to the TOP of the tank to eat the food of my other fishes - they are NOT waiting at the bottom of the tank. But thanks, maybe they just need time to get used to the new food. (Strange though, none of my other fishes ever went through this period).

I agree that it can sometimes take time, especially if the store you bought them from just fed them flaked food.

One of my cories still likes to go to the top to eat some flakes but understands that the pellet I drop in is food as well.
