So this morning i went to check up on the tank and i noticed my fish behaving a bit strangely. Two of my angelfish were huddled in the front left corner and the silver dollars were all hiding back in the plants. So I let them go and sit down at my computer to do some work. Now just a few minutes ago, i decided to take a break for a bit and watch the fish. I turn around and something caught my eye. On the filter intake tube, there was what looked like a white crusty stuff. So I get a little closer and realize it's not a crust at all. It's a whole mess of ANGELFISH EGGS!!! Turns out one of my angels took a liking to the new one I added about a week ago. I'd say they're about 50% fertilized. I'm so excited! I can't wait to see the outcome of this! I'm already loving watching them take turns. One fans the eggs while the other stands guard. Then they switch off. It's amazing.

Oh, and here's a pic:

Wow Congrats man, good job :)

it is pretty neat to watch thier progress. What a strange place for them to lay!!

Thanks! I can't even tell ya how excited I am. I guess it's time to start asking some questions though.

I was planning a water change today. Should I go through with that or maybe let it go until they hatch? I don't want to disturb them.

And the 10,000,000,000 dollar (US dollars) question is... What am I gonna do with baby angelfish? I dunno how many, if any, of this spawn will survive. I've read it usually takes the parents a few tries to "get it right." But I don't really have room for a bunch of little angels and I don't have a decent LFS around here. Do chain pet stores like Petsmart take fish from customers? Heck, anyone in the central PA area interested in some baby angels? :)

i've just had my first batch of fry, so i'm no expert. FWIW I stick to my regular maint. schedule. Im not sure if chains will take them or not. You should try to find a small LFS to take them for cash or credit, even if you have to travel a bit.JMO

Turn off the filter? I see your point and even thought of that myself. But i can't see that being good for the fish. There's gotta be an alternative to turning it off. Or will it be ok for them to go for a few days without the filter? I'd think ammonia and such would build up to harmful levels.

Is it your only filter?

I dont know if removing the intake tube would cause the angels to neglect the eggs.... but something needs to be done i think. You could try taking the intake tube off the filter and place it on the gravel, slowly, so the angels can still see where thier eggs are. Or, turn off the filter, remove the media, and transfer it over to a temporary filter to run until the babies are away from the tube. I've heard of this happening before and babies being sucked in.

I kind of eperienced the same thing today. Just wed. I bought a pair of german blue rams. They laid eggs today and I have no idea how to care for them. I was almost thinking of grabbing an older sword leave and placing it on the intake. I know some of them might get sucked through, but i don't really want to turn the filter off. If I had to turn it off I wonder if the plants would provide enough "filteration"
