I have a 100g tank with only 1 pump (the return pump from the sump) in it. Do I need to add more power heads to it? Its currently FOWLR but I want to grow LPS coral in the future.

I would add some, yes--liekly around one powerhead every 2 feet of tank, and creating overlfow around 15-20 times per hour, including the movement to the sump. More isn't bad, but will depend on what animals you have in there.

What do you mean overflow of 15-20 times per hour? Also what direction should they be pointing?

For example-- a powerhead moves 50 gallons per hour. In a 100 gallon tank, that means it will turn over the half the tank in one hour. 2 such powerheads will turn the tank over once every hour. You want it turned over 15-20 times per hour.

I put the powerheads in to create currents and swirls, hitting different places at different speeds. The ocean doesn't move in just one direction, so why would an aquarium?
