Hello everyone...hope someone can help me...I have a friend who has a 75 gallon aquarium that has apparently alot of calcium buildup on the inside and she has tried CLR to get it off nothing works...does anyone know of anything that could work...right now she is only keeping a turtle in it but would love to fill it with fish...thanks for your help

A) CLR is not safe to use to clean tanks. It's tough to rinse completely out, and should be avoided.

B) Most effective methods require having the tank empty.

C) Soaking with vinegar and then a bit of elbow grease works wonders. Oxyclean will also get most deposits off.

However--possibly a moot point. Glass can become etched from hard water deposits, and will continue to look cloudy when dry if this is the case.

What's she going to do with the turtle?

Vinegar should work well. I've also found that a good old razor blade can scrape hard water deposits off pretty well. If anyone knows a way to prevent these, I'm all ears. Er, Eyes in this cae.

Vineger has worked wonders for me. Its stinky and you gotta scrub a bit on the hard stuff, but it will take it off.

As far as prevention I wonder if there is an optical grade glass coating that could inhibit the growth?
