i live in a area where the water is very hard. we are getting a water softner to help with our applicanes & etc. does anyone what kind of effect it would do to my fishes. right now i have clown loaches, arowana, guppies, bistle nose pleco, L260, clown pleco, royal pleco, tiger datnoid, & fontosa in serval different tanks.

Shouldn't be a problem as you will be slowly replacing the tank ater over time with a number of water changes..........If you are at all concered cut you water change amount in have and almost double the number of changes (times) you would do.

You should be ok. For planted tank it might be more of a problem. In my water softener, I use KCl instead of NaCl. My water softener has a bypass, so that what I use now. In the long term you might run into issues with fish or plants if you use softened water. Clown loaches don't like salt. Not sure if what you get through your water softener would be enough to upset them over time.
