Well. As some of you may know, Im about a week into my first tank. Everything has been going well. I've been doing regular daily 50% water changes, and have avoided overfeeding my fish (2 barbs 2 tetras).
I returned from work today, to see my fish acting slightly odd. I figured I'd test the water to see what the problem was, and when my finger touched the water, it was ice cold
I almost dropped the test strip in the tank bc it was so frigid. I immediatly checked my heater (brand new top fin) and to my suprise, it was completely off.
I immediately got a space heater and positioned it right next to the tank while I went the store to exchange my heater. Upon arriving back home and setting it up, I noticed my largest (and most vibrant) fish, a bright pink rosey, laying close the the bottom of the tank. Barely managing to take breaths.
The water temp has finally reached a suitable level, and the three other fish are now fine and moving around easily. But "Rosey" (what my g/f named her) is rapidly getting worse.
I realize that all hope is lost for her, and now I should worry about ending her suffering. Do you guys have any idea what the best (quickest, least painful) way to euthenize her would be?
Every second counts so any replies you guys could provide now would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...
