OK well I looked in my tank today as I was doing my 50% water change and my pleco was dead I dont know how or why it happened. He add some age on him so im really confused
He was probally a good year and then some. He has always looked very healthy and was at a pretty good size from when I got him. Probally 200-300% increase in size. I had to keep the light off in the tank for four days and I wonder if that starved him? I feel so bad.
A year, 2 years, 3, years ... these are actually short life spans for MOST fish, including plecos. They can live for 10-20 years if provided with good conditions and the proper size tanks. How big of a tank was he in? Any other changes/additions recently? Sorry for you loss, plecos are cool.
Plecos are pretty much tanks. Leading causes of death are too small tanks, causing stunting, expecting them to eat only algea, when they need a varied diet, and really bad water conditions. These fish should live forever if properly cared for.
What Archangel said is all good. After all Plecos are his thing Chances are that he didnt get the foodS he needed and poor water. Try testing your water and give us the results.
