stainless sisors from medical use would be perfect for trimming anything that is to tough to trim by pinching it off.

in fact several of the tongs and such used in surgery would be usefull for working in a tank.

any school that has a nurseing program usually has sets of basic stuff that would be easy to put to another use.

I just use a pair of long scissors, and a pair of tweezers (both bent and straight). I think as long as you dry them immediately after you're done, the rate of rusting will be significantly lower (but don't take my word for it, for all I know, my stuff could be stainless and I wouldn't have a clue :))

I use a razor blade for taking cuttings from plants. I just pinch off dead leaves and whatnot though.

Take a look here for sites for cheap but stainless steel scissors and tweezers

The longest scissors on Bobs link is 7".

Here is a tool set that is all 11" long and stainless steel, scissors, tweezers, and a spatula rake.

It was modeled after Amanos' set, for a fraction of the cost, (his is like $200)
