cleaning fluval 404's

how often should u clean the fluval 404?
have u ever had it puff out air bubbles?

I have a 304 and I clean it every month, I rinse out the sponges and bio rings with tank water and replace or recharge any media that needs it..........Others will tell you to clean it only if and when the flow slows down, but for a little time and $ I like my routine.
