I want to remove some salt and/or mineral deposits on the glass of my tank. They are right in the center and water didn't seem to help. The marks go away when wet but come back as there area dries. Here is a picture.

I know windex would be a very bad idea, but is there anything that might work? Glass is porus so I'm worried about chemicals going through it. Thanks for theh help.

You could use a dilute vinegar solution, and keep it in a spray bottle, as that's what I use, and it works fine. Just try not to get it into the aquarium (a little is okay, but don't go pouring the entire bottle into the aquarium!)

Also, I was not aware that glass is porous, as I've read people using Windex and the like with no ill effect on the aquarium's inhabitants

thaats wierd

how glass works

another fact is it is a very slow moving liquid....

look at some really old windows and see how the bottom is much thicher then the top from where the glass has slowly drouped down....

I actually saw one of those 'myth buster' shows that explains that. It said that in the old days the manufacturing process was not as good as todays and that usually the glass was 'stood up' before fully hardening. They said that the 'thicker at the bottom' glass came that way from the manufacturer and didn't happen over time. The newer glass makers today have cured this and you will notice that the newer 'old' windows don't pool at the bottom.
