Is there anyone here with a Violet Goby? I am planning a brackish tank and really like them.
So far I found out they get huge, and supposedly are peaceful.
Which minimum tank size would you suggest? I am planning a 125g tank, is that enough?
Also, do they have any other special requirements (water parameters, decoration, ...)? My tap water is pretty hard, and about 7.2-7.4 in pH.
Also, what tank mates could live with one? I read that they are suitable for a community tank... are they really that peaceful?

Thank you all for taking the time to answer!

There actually a bio for it right on the site Viloet Goby

hi,i have a couple violet goby's in a tank, but mine are in fresh water, they are doing fine, there both about 10 inch long.they are in with 3 hujets gars,1 maculta gar, peppermint pike head,4 loepard bush fish,1 ghost knife,2 polypterus,2 purple striped goby's,2 pakistni loach and a cuple of bristlenose plecs, they only seem to bother each other when they meet.

tank size is 48x15x15.

as for feeding they eat blood worm, algae wafers and small catfish pellets.

Yes, mine were in all freshwater for about 4 or 5 months, then (once again  ), I was an idiot and thought I could keep the little wolffish in the tank for just ONE night....but it killed the goby...although here they just call them dragon fish.

WOW, thats one over stocked tank IMHO... and this is a BRACKISH fish, these fish die if kept in FW too long. Any brackish fish can be kept in freshwater and vice versa for a SHORT amount of time, but long term, this is a no-no.

Every thing I have read stated that the dragon fish can live fine in a tank with just a tsp per 5g of water of salt. Is this anyones experience with the fish I have two on hold at the lfs but I do not have a true brackish tank :confused:I don't want a fish that will die in a couple of months

that's like NO brackishness at all. Please reconsider!

I kept a dragon in FW once. It lived 8 years, but within the 1st 2 years started developing reddish/pink tumors all over it's body, even inside it's mouth. Finally, it got so big, it couldn't eat anymore. I am sure it is from being forced to live in FW it's whole life.

i purchased one from (of all places) wal-mart after seeing them there and researching for a night to find most info saying non agressive and adaptable to FW. but after 2 weeks, he died. i'm not sure if i should chalk it up to the fact that he needed more salt, or that he was from wal-mart :(

he was nice to look at and had his own established pvc cave, but as much as i want another, i wont get one because i only run about 1tsp salt per 5 gallons. :(
