Are there any specific fish Rams are not to be kept with? (Tropical Community)
Can they be kept with Bettas? I saw some in person and I'm liking what I'm seeing :) Also, are these guys extremely sensitive to anything, or are they hardy? Thanks to all you wise people who respond:)

Three weeks ago I bought a male and female Blue Rams and I have heard since then that they do not get along with cories but i have not had a problem with that yet. Mine seem to do a little chasing of everyone occasionally. They are supposedly very sensitive and prefer a lower ph of around 6.8 and 78-82 degree tanks. I had no problem so far with mine aclimating and they seem to be as happy as can be. They come to the front of the tank when I go in the room because they love me and are happy to see me (Begging for food). :p

They would be an excellent choice. Sometimes they get a little rough during spawning, particularly with cories. But as long as the cories have plenty of room to get out of the way no harm is done. Somebody asked earlier about cories and rams in a 10g and that wouldn't work because the cories would have no place to go to get away. If you look at my sig you can see what I keep mine with. They breed just about every two weeks and no harm has come from it yet. About the only thing I wouldn't try them with would be maybe kribs.

If you have a standard 90g its 24" tall. Rams rarely leave the bottom and IIRC Bettas rarely leave the surface so they probably wouldn't even know of each others existence. I can't foresee a problem between the two, especially in a tank that big. I would imagine that you are going to be keeping 1 or 2 schools of tetra's in there and those are the ones that will keep the Rams occupied. Remember that Rams are really only going to be aggressive when they spawn, the rest of the time they are as peaceful as can be.

Thanks so much :) You are very knowlegeable! I don't think I could go without having a Betta in my 90 :p I suppose if I had a problem, I could remove either fish. I may also get a 20+ Gal for Rams, not decided, should probably focus on getting this one done first, hehe. I'm pretty sure we're getting the driftwood/gravel/etc all done today :) I'm excited, still!
Thanks again!

Ems...my blue rams are having babies ! I have them in with 2 dwarf neon gouramis and 2 otocinclus. The first batch they had didn't make it for some reason..I'm thinking they got eaten by the gouramis...or..mom and dad..lol....but the pair just dropped another batch of eggs in the tank and I'm going to be watching to see what happens.

I'd take the gouramis out to give them a better chance, but I have to wait for my 15 to warm up. I just put a heater in it for them, right now I have 5 long finned danios in there to keep the tank cycled...it's my quarenteen tank. Hope the eggs don't hatch before I can get them out of there.

Gee, and I read that these rams are hard to get to breed...lol...maybe it's just that they're hard to keep alive after hatching...I'll find out..
