Help needed to plan a 30h

I know little to nothing about freshwater tanks. I have a reef tank with all the fixins, but really need help on WHAT to setup in a fresh tank

The tank is a 30h with an Eheim cannister filter. I have a ebo jager heater and maybe a power head or two in the garage. It has a plain old flourescent light in the hood. I really don't want to do any upgrades to the tank. I had thought of making it a seahorse tank, but not sure I am up to the feeding requirements. The tank and filter would be perfect for it though. I really do want something fairly low maintenence though.

Do I need a powerhead or is the water movement sufficient with just the eheim? What substrate do I use? Planted or no?(I doubt I have enough light) What kind of fish would do well in those dimensions(30in high, 18d, 24 w)

I don't want it to be boring though. On the other hand, I don't want difficult to keep fish.

well, you have lots of choices with a 30h. You could go with smaller fish, and have more diversity. Kinda like a reef tank: snails, shrimp, etc. . . As far as water movement is concerned, depends on what kinda fish you have. Substrate, I have sand...you can also do gravel as well. (I feel it is more work though. Plus sand is easier to clean) I prefer sand, more natural looking and peaceful looking too. You can also have a planted tank as well. There are some low light plants out there that would do well: java fern, anubias, etc. . . You could do a small layer of plant substrate and then do a layer of sand. For stocking, you could do guppies, tetras, killies, or even cichlids. But i think cichlids prefer a little more room. But since you have a decient size tank, you have lots of possibilities.
