Can anyone tell me if this is possible? He's had a fungus since October but is gaining back all his color again, eating very well, is very spunky and building daily bubble nests. I moved him into a heated 5 gallon tank and he's been on a fungus med. While doing a water change, to our horror, a 1/2 inch long wiggly brown thing came out of the water, with 6 legs and a knob type head. It's so gross!!! It swims and is very alive! Is this some sort of parasite? Tried to find pics on web but no luck. FYI we moved a decoration from my 20 gallon tank into his 5 gallon last week, but did clean thoroughly before adding to his tank.

hmm-Sounds freaky! I don't know but if you could post a pic.i'd be very interested to see this alien thing. (I thought i saw something of the same thing once -turn out to be an old root from a plant.)

Yea, you should definitely post up a pic of it...or I doubt that many people will be able to help. Me myself, I've never heard of anything like it in a situation like yours.

sounds like a dragonfly larva or damselfly larva. they are quite preditory and would view a fry tank as lunch served.

dragonfly larvae (nymphs) would be a possibility i suppose...yes...now that I think about it that is a good possibility..but this time of year??

renie, can you describe the shape of the alien thing? Is it round... is it long and thin, etc...?

Thanks everyone. Thanks to the larvae analysis, I was able to pull up a pix of dragonfly larvae and sure enough, that's what it is! I read they can be on a plant, and we just purchased a new one recently from an lfs. It's pretty amazing--they can live for years in the water as larvae! I think it must have been in the castle decoration (taken from my 20 gallon tank) I put in my betta's new 5 gal tank. So, does that mean my 20 gallon tank may have them? What do I do?
