i have a 75 gal tank I plant to house African Cichlids in should i go with a planted tank or mostly rocks and caves?

Mostly rocks. You can have plants as well, but rockwork is your main decoration as a rule.

Everyone I know with those says they dig and tear up the tank... meaning that plants probably won't work too well ;)

plastic plants might be the way to go.

Cichilids are infamous for tearing up planted aquariums. I strongly recommend rocks, but I have not experience to help you with!

Good luck.

Rocks, 100%. I had 3 tanks of mbuna up until a few weeks ago, the best way to keep plants is if you anchor them in driftwood or rocks. They love to dig out personal caves so the substrate is always piled up and your plants are floating around. I tried to do planted (because it looks better IMO) for a long time but just got tired of the upkeep. In the end I turned my tank into a fake salt water set up with tons of coral and shells. No more plants floating around, :D

Just looked at your sig racingjason, and wow! 50 neon tetra's, that must look awesome
do you have any pictures of the tank?

Yeah, but my photography skills are less than my fish keeping skills and that ain't saying much. :p I will have new pics Sunday with discus in the tank if all goes well Saturday.

I will post a link in my sig later today, besides I don't want to high jack this thread. :)
