In my new 10 gal, I have been changing water 2x a day, about 40% because of skyrocketing nitrite levels...
Yesterday I added some stuff the LFS sold me, called "Cycle". Don't know if it's helping or not, but my nitrites are staying at at least a managable level of 3. I know that still isn't very good, but at least it isn't 5, like it was!
Any other words of advice for a newbie fish mom?

Keep monitoring. Cycle contains nitrifiers, but they are not the ones that can survive and establish in an aquarium, so the added ones will die shortly and allow the nitrites to spike again. Also, 3ppm is still lethal--you need to keep them well below 1.

Ditto to above but keep doing the water changes. Thats the best thing you can do right now. 2x a day until they drop to ZERO.
