Hi, I have a dwarf flame gourami who lets out lots of tiny little bubbles sometimes. It seems to be when he really active. from time to time he will swim fairly franticly back and forth at the front of the tank and release bursts of little bubbles. is this basically him 'exhaling'? i've never seen another fish do this...
any thoughts?

gourami's are labyrinth fish like bettas and they will take breaths to supplement them with extra oxygen due to the more stagnent pools they live in in the wild. Sometimes a few bubbles will escape its mouth if its in a hurry. I see my betta do this all the time.

That's what it was! I knew it looked familiar! I had a betta when i was a kid and he DID the same thing! I couldn't place it! Thanks!

Are dwarf gouramis bubble nest builders, since we're on the topic?

Yes, dwarf gouramis are bubblenesters. Mine build nests in my floating plants from time to time, even without a female around.
