If you are certain it is indeed white spot/Ich, yes, that tank would be ine for the salt/heat treatment for ich. For some insight as to what temp, how much salt and how long to treat (and also to help identify and know what you are up against) I recommend this article by Daveedka that is posted right here in the articles forum of Aquaria Central. Well, does it look like a grain of salt attached to a fish? IS there more than one spot or one fish affected? I hate to advise you to use salt to treat your fish because it will stress them, just not as much as Ich meds.

You failed t answer the question. Look, I cannot examine the fish. I can't make the call. You have to do that based upon the visual evidence before you. I won't tell you to start treating for Ich unless you are certain it is Ich. It would be irresponsible for me to do so. I am not a vetrinarian. I am not an Ichthyologist. I am an aquarium hobbyist just like you. All I can do is say if you think it is Ich, then treat it as such. If you are that uncertain, take a fish to the LFS and ask them. Once again, I'll ask the question which you have to answer to determine for yourself if it is Ich or not: Does the animal(s) have raised white spots that look like a grain of salt?

I'm not trying to be mean here, but asking people to diagnose for certain if what you have is Ich without us being able to see the fish is just a loaded question. Again, it's your determination. Good luck.

Here is a link I Googled up that shows a picture of a fish with Ich. If you decide that's what it is, then treat with heat and salt as per Daveedka's article I linked to in the first post.

ok but it is on my 3 platies anal fin but it didnt start on their gills is this ich cos i have heard different stories

There seems to be some confusion on this point, which is unfortunately the opposite response intended when I wrote the article.

ICH does prefer the gills simply because gill tissue is exposed, and not protected as well as the rest of the exposed surfaces on the fish. It will attack the gill tissue, not the exterior gill plates. therefore unless you see flashing or scraping, it goes unnoticed.

Essentially, ich will attach anywhere it can, so if it gets to the anal fin, and isn't warded off or shed by the slime coat it is happy right there. The primary issue, and what I believe Harlock is trying to lead you to is that ich really isn't too difficult to identify. Look at the pictures, look at your fish. If the spots on your platy look like the ones in the pictures he linked, then you have a positive I'd. Many platies and mollies do have platinum spots on their fins and tails. But they aren't raised postules like ich, and they wouldn't suddenly show up. Adding salt to a tank, is a good way to cure ich, but is otherwise unadvisable IMHO, so do a little research, and you should be able to figure out what to do. As was said, we cannot positively identify what is on your fish from the boards. We want to help, but without a good picture, we are really only guessing.
