Just how big do these fish get??

A fish store has some "senegalensis" bichirs at 5-6" but I thought bichirs got over 20"?

Well, everything I have found suggests close to 12 inches with one saying commonly 10 but up to 13 inches. Also, wild caught apparently they are bigger, like up to 16 inches.

They usually max out at 12" in aquariums. Larger ones are very rare. AP (aquaticpredators.com), is he number one source for bichir information, but the site is temporarily down.

Agreed w/ Spartan. mine was 12" before I had to give it away. Great eater, great fish, great pet.

I have three small senegals growing out in my 29 gallon. Will be moving thm to a 90 or bigger this summer. Awesome fish. Eat from my fingers.

Ya, senegals are some of the most "personable" bichirs.
I've had my senegal for a while, hasn't grown at the typical 1" per month rate of others. I think i have a super runt. Only grown an inch or two in almost a year for a grand total of barely 4 inches.
