Check the black spot on the side of your fish. If it has bluish/silver dots in it = Female. No dots = Male
1st 2 rays on the male are longer than female. Females get very rosy bellies.

the female also gets a lot less blue than the male and tends to be smaller, although quite a bit rounder.

female: spangled black spot, short dorsal rays giving a crew cut look, dorsal fin definately rounded, smaller bodies, pink bellies, pelvic fins rounded at tip.
male: very little if any spangling in the black spot, larger bodies with more blue on its back end and more yellow in the belly region, more red face and fins, extended 1st 3 rays giving a cockatoidies cichlid look but less extreme, dorsal fin may come to a 90 angle, pelvic fins may have an extended bottom ray (1st ray) giving a lyre look.
um...when they are big an next to eachother, you can definatly tell a difference, but when they are young it is often difficult to see these variations.

Male is upper left......it's hard to see the dark color of the first rays of the dorsal fin in this pix.

is that just a gold ram?
Tyler the top fish is probably a male. The 1st 2 rays are extended. No rosy belly. I really cant tell the second one.

Tyler....
Your blue does look like a male.
The second ram in my picture is a Golden.....and I'm pretty sure it's the male I used to have.
(The first couple of rays on the dorsal are longer)
I used to have 2 golden rams in a 6 Gallon Eclipse......with a few dwarf cory cats, then moved them into a 29G community tank. The goldens died off after a couple of years. I bought a pair of blues......which did the same.
Still....one of my favorite fish.
Then your rams had a full life since they only live about 2 years.
You could put them in a 5.5, but I would go for a 10 gallon. Rams are sensitive to water quality and you would have to do many water changes with a 10.
they would be the only thing in the 5.5, besides an otto and two ghost shrimp. i change water about every three days (every time i need to water my house plants pretty much), about a gallon at a time. tank is planted, working on making it heavily planted.
