I'm watching it now. I used to not have any interest at all in NASCAR but chris made me watch it every week and I got to liking it!!

Season was off to an interesting start with that whole Harvick thing that happened...

Boogety boogety boogety boys!:D

Go Jr!

I'm glad that the season has finally started. The only drawback is that I had to set my alarm so I could get up at 4 am here just so I could watch it.

Rusty is my favorite driver is retiring this year, but Rusty is still hanging out in the back. Maybe that is his plan. Anyways, Go Rusty!!!

Ugh, I have never seen the appeal of cars going in circles. I know it's supposedly the sport of the future or the most watched sport or whatever, but I just don't get it. Not knocking anyone that watches it, but it's not for me. FWIW, I have tried to watch it an have a brother who is a rabid fan who has made me watch it over at his place. So, I gave it the old college try.

the comercials sure are silly, I'd take these over the over budgeted superbowl comercials any day. :)

Let Gordon have his 5 min's in the spotlight this year!! :p

Martin Truex, he will be the next big thing. Give him a little time. I have to watch the re-run so I can see with the heck happened to him yesterday :( I guess he got caught up on the last big wreck?? I thought he was far enough in front to avoid it. We had a house full of people so I couldn't watch it as closely as I would have wanted. :(

Jr gets screwed again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kane hits the wall while Jr is in the lead.....Gordon passes Jr 1/2 lap later and the caution, caused by Kane hitting the wall, comes out!!!

While Im not Gordon fan, this boy is an AWESOME driver. I hated Dale Sr. too, but I love his son and root for him every week!!

Truex is VERY likely to be the next big thing. Great driver and he's got the best team in NASCAR behind him.
I was very impressed with Kane last year, but I am by no means a fan.
Stewart is probably THE best driver out there right now, but it doesn't take away from the fact that he is an A #1 SOB!!! Someone that hated and such a disrespectfull p r ic k, should NOT even have a sponsor.

It was my house!! I was grillin' bartendin', servin', oyester shuckin', peanut boilin'...............everything but race watchin'

I'm glad to see Jimmy Spencer running well in the truck series this year. Good driver, just needs to re-group a little ;)

I'm with Harlock on this one. I've got friends who invite me over nearly every year for their big "Red Neck New Year Celebration." The food and beverages are superb, but I just can't get into the race.

Drive fast and turn left. http://www.lotrats.com/lotrats/images/smiles/shrug.gif

You need to see a Nextel Cup race in person to calibrate your perspective ;) I try to take in one live at least once per year just for this reason.

I saw a race at Pocono a couple of years back. I had a h*ll of a time. We were parked in the infield near the mud pit. It was probably one of the greatest parties I've been to in my 33 years. We rolled in at about 1:00 am and partied up until the 1:00 PM start of the race. I can't really say if the race itstelf was more enjoyable than watching it on TV because I was passed out in the camper for most of it.http://www.lotrats.com/lotrats/images/smiles/new_sleeping.gif

Do all the cars have the same type of engines? What is the point when all the cars are the same? I never understood nascar.

its all about the NBA. :D

They don't all have the same engines, exactly..........All 3 manufacturers engines (Chevy, Dodge, Ford) are built to very strict parameters for construction, displacement, compression ratio, etc. The teams focus mainly on the cylinder heads to extract the max amount of power in the RPM range that they want based on each track. That's why some teams run better on short tracks others run better on restrictor plate tracks, etc. NASCAR does what it can to try to make all 3 manufacturers as even as possible for close racing and equal brand recognition. Sometimes that part of the sport shoots them in the foot

This weekend, the Hooters Cup series kicks off at our very own USA Speedway here in Lakeland FL :dance 3/4 mile, high bank, concrete.............Boogity, boogity BOOOOOOOOOGITY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I mention Hooters Girls??? :p

Often, it doesn't come down to the engine anyway. You can have a faster car and not win if your pitcrew had a bad stop or if they overadjusted something. Gas mileage and knowing when to pit also plays a big role, as does where to ride the track, when to draft, when not to, who to mess with and who not to, when to pass, the strategy of points...there's a lot that goes into it. Usually its not even the flatout fastest cars that win! The fastest car at the start may not be as fast at the end of the race.

I might sit down one day and watch a whole race.

But do you guys consider NASCAR a sport?

But do you guys consider NASCAR a sport?

This is a question that always comes up. I usually answer by asking if people consider baseball a sport. At the end of a day of competition, who has expelled more energy and suffered the most dehydration, a baseball player or a NASCAR driver?? Then the question, is NASCAR a contact sport???? :idea2:

Good points Leopardess!

Mindtonic,

Been there, done that!! I've been to Pocono many times when I lived in NY. Awesome track, huge infield, one great big party!!!
