I am currently using instant ocean salts but are Reef Crystals really worth the extra money If I only have a few button and star polyps? Does anyone know the actual difference between the two I mean are trace elements and stuff significantly higher in your tank?

No appreciable difference as far as I can tell...I usually go with IO as it is cheaper and typically has better promotions. (eg, free powerhead, T-shirt, etc)

i use both. i think that they are pretty much the same. i use crystals in my reef tanks and IO in my normal tanks. but i'll probably just switch back to IO when i use up my 200 gal mix of RC.

I asked the question what was the best salt to use and IO was the most commonly used salt for a number of reasons but the most being cost and most LFS carry it.

I was just curious if the levels of Iodine,Magnesium and such were significantly higher enough to warrant the extra cost.

Great article. The copper and other metals levels suprised me though.
HMMM... does extra lithium mean mellow fish? :D
Thought I'd give this a bump cuz a couple people have been asking me about different salt mixes lately... Took forever to find this thread again! The link above is great, thanks again gcvt =)
Just when you thought it was safe to go into the (Instant) Ocean....

Not sure what to make of this article yet...I may have to read it again.
I call it more of Dr. Ron's bullpoo... He is also now claiming that cycling your tank with cocktail shrimp is a usless waste of time... Al lot of guys from Aqualink are having a blast at his expense ;)
Instant Ocean is just as good as anything else no matter what some nutty old fart has to say about it...
