My tank is a 10 gal. planted tank. I've decided that I want a Betta Imbellis, aka "Peaceful Betta," some Tetras (I'm not sure which kind yet), and some Dwarf Croaking Gouramis. (Is it true that the Dwarf Croaking Gouramis are also called Sparkling Gouramis or Trichopsis Pumilis?) Both the Tetras and Gouramis are grouping fish.

How many Tetras and Dwarf Croaking Gouramis should I get?

Here is my suggestion:
1 Peaceful Betta
4 Neon(?) tetra
4 Dwarf Croaking Gourami

I'd like to hear someone else's input on this but maybe we could add in 2 corydoras' for cleanup? That might be pushing overstock though.

I would not put that many gouramis in a ten gallon tank, they aren't betta splendens but the dwarfs do have spats and might view the betta as competition. its generally recomended not to put splendens with other anabatoids, I'm not sure how peaceful Imbellis is. I've seen alot of 'peaceful' fish turn a ten gallon into a war zone just because it is close quarters.

Hye Beeker, I gave my thoughts in your other thread. It's generally better to have only one thread as most of us visit the other FW forums and that way all of the info stays in one place.

Trichopsis Pumilis = Pygmy Gourami or Sparkling Gourami, and are smaller than other Trichopsis.

There is also Trichopsis vittatus (croaking gourami), and Trichopsis schalleri (three-striped croaking gourami).

I would go with either a group of pygmies (as they are the best fit for a 10 gal.), or the betta personally. If you really want to try this combo, having an extra tank ready would be a good idea in case things go wrong.

I do have an extra tank. I will get it running just in case. Thanks for the advice. But if the species profile is accurate, there shouldn't be any problems. The species profile section of this website recommended these fish as tankmates.
