ok, so I finally have everything on a roll for the 45 gallon SW tank but I have a concern. I am using the AC Remora with the MJ1200, that works like a charm. I've had that in for a couple weeks or so...... last week, I added about 12 hermits (zebras), about a dozen assorted snails, and a coral Beauty Pygmy Angel. This past weekend, I added the 2 Maxijet Powerheads (900's) and they push about 230 gph each. After getting the PH's in place and started though, it looks like there's way too much current/flow in the tank now. Could that be so? Or could it be that I'm just not used to it, it's actually how it's supposed to be......? In the meantime, I have minimized the airflow and turned one of them off (last night) because I guess I just wasn't feeling right about it..... can someone advise me about this?

I would remove the air hoses completely--not needed in a SW setup. The current, though, is hard to judge--I'm a big fan of lots of water movement. I have the 1800's in the 120's, plus the return flow, and think it's a little slow...

Thanks, OG.......that's even better then.... I was thinking of removing the hoses all together but wasn't sure if the air was needed for the PH's...... So that being said, I can even lower the PH's, maybe even keep them at different heights in the tank for more even flow then, right?

Yep--and I encourage that, simply because it makes it easier to target some areas, and provide lower flow places as well.

I have 2 Aqauclear 301's (175GPH) in my 29G. At first I had them turnied down as low as they could go, like you I it looked like way to much, but over a week or 2 I kept turning them up a little. They are on full now and the fish won't leave the dtream they love it. I read on here, that someone used the example of a treadmill, if the fish aren't used to the flow (because they have been in a tank with little to no flow at the LFS) they will get tossed around a bit, but once they start building their muscles up it will be fine.

you don't need the hoses on the powerheads?

I have 3 maxi jet 600's in a 29, with a return pump and a penguin h.o.b. the fish love it.

Decz,
nope, really dont need those hoses on the ph's. bsides makin it look ugly (i hate seeing bubbles in the tank) it's really not needed since it just increases gas exchange w/ the water, and as long as your water is moving and especially if you have a skimmer or hob filter then there's plenty of xchange.
