Some sea snails can pull it off with tiny fish, but to my knowledge, FW snails couldn't manage.

The fish could have died, and the snails may have eaten the remains...

they don't eat living ones.

just imagine how slow a fish would have to be in order to be overtaken and eaten alive by snails... there's no way a living fish would become snail food.

Check filters, the area around the aquarium, under any decorations... What kind of fish went missing?

I think that it may be bad water. Test your water and post the results.

Heh, have you ever seen footage of cone snails in action? Woof, those things can sting a fish and engulf it whole in a matter of seconds. Also, some cone snails are one of the most deadly venomous animals on the planet.

I was reading something the other day about cone snail venoms being approved investigationally as analgesics, and research is being done on using them as possible novel therapeutics in a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Crazy world, huh?

Yip! It's the neurotoxins they are mainly looking at I believe. In high conentration they'll wipe you out, but in low enough doses they may prove to be beneficial. I have also ehard they are looking into box jellyfish venoms as well... which is amazing as they are supposedly the most venomous creatures on earth.

While I'm not saying this is what happened to your fish I do have an interesting story.

My boss has a 46 gallon bowfront he keeps for his kids. he has som pretty common fish like danios and tetras and a large apple snail. One evening he happened to be watching the tank when he noticed a danio pestering the snail when, to his shock, the danio managed to swim INSIDE THE SNAIL. To the best that I can figure from his description, the fish managed to swim inside the chamber of the shell and got trapped.

The snail was looking pretty unhappy about it for a while but eventually recovered and is now living happily in the tank. Of course, the danio has never been seen again.

Its not entirely uncommon for fish to completely dissapear when you have cleaning crews working the tank.

your feedback is informational

i enjoyed your story ,even though i suspect the snail (just because)
i kept it in the tank just because ...its sometimes more interesting than the fish

my apple snail that I had until it was eaten by the tiger barbs "nipping and harrassing it" had eaten a fish I was watching it eat the body of one that didn't make it when I introduced it into the tank pretty wild watching it munch on a fish.
