So, I've got one of those Eclipse System 12's laying around. I was wondering if that 13W Power Compact light on top of it would be enough light for a few freshwater plants. I've got some Seachem Fluorite substrate that I had to use. What do you think I could pull off with this?

I'm not familiar with some of these names('Eclipse 12') that people use to describe their tanks so if you could give me the dimensions of your tank, particularly the height and also the gallons, it would be a big help in determining how effective 13watts would be.

Definitely. Start off with low light plants and (1) Amazon sword. Prune it weekly. Lowlights: Java Fern, Bolbitus, ANubius, Cryptocorynes, Onion bulb. Once these take hold try a few others. Hint: You will not be able to sustain any red plants with that light!

I've had an Eclipse 12 running for around three years, but just recently dove into the live plant option. I planted several just before finding this forum, so I got lucky with keeping them alive. I had no clue about low/med/strong light requirements.

So far I've planted the following and they are all thriving:

1) Anubias (don't know the exact variety)
2) Ludwigia repens
3) Java fern
4) Anacharis

Read this link and you'll be on the right track. Good luck and let us know what you decided on.
