i am wondering that since a male betta is a rather slow fish with long fins, if he could be put in a tank with something like a slow, fancy goldfish of the same size? if it was just tho 2 of them in there, it makes sense (to me anyways) that in a large tank, they would probably leave eachother alone... or maybe, the betta would go after the goldfish... just pondering, wasnt gonna try it (love my guys to much to have them get killed), but that would be awesome if they could just live in harmony. wondering what other people think...

NO, don't do it, please.
Main reason is Goldies are coldwater and Bettas are tropical, while you "could" do it, it would not be ideal for one or the other.
Odds are fair that one or the other will bully the other, and the Betta will have a very hard time getting something to eat with a fat greedy Goldie gobbling up all the food.

Just my $0.02.....

lol, dont worry i wasnt gonna do it... i just got the idea when i was looking at the 2 seperate tanks, and i wondered " i know it would end in disaster, but i wonder what WOULD happen" i never even thought of the coldwater/ tropical differences...

The water temp would be an issue. Since we are talking a fancy golfish, the fancy fins may cause the betta to get aggresive which could be an issue.
