I went to a new fish store today and was talking to someone that worked there and she told me a few things about my tank that I didnt know and wanted to check on here to see if it was all true. One thing was that my tank raised false clowns wont host in an anemone b/c it was bred out of them and if they tried to host, they would maybe die b/c they dont have the same kind of slime coat as the ones in the wild would. Also, that my Haitian pink tip are known for moving around at night and stinging and killing everything in a tank. Mine hasnt moved around at all so far for the week I had it, but I know it has a strong sting after I accidently touched it. One last thing she told me was that I cant have corals b/c I used Instant Ocean salt and it doesnt have a calcium buffer and I would have to switch salt if I wanted corals. So I just wanted to check to see if anyone had any info on this. Thanks in advance.

Tank raised clowns most often do not take to anemones.

Not sure about your Haitian moving around and killing everything. Many people keep them with no problems.

I, along with thousands of other people, have a tank full of corals and use Instant Ocean salt. What salt was she recommending?

I am not to sure what she said to use, I believe it was Reef Crystals of something like that. Has anyone had any luck w/ tank raised clowns to host in an anemone?

It's hit or miss with tank-raised clowns. Sometimes they will go for months or years without even "noticing" the host anemone's presence, then one day you get up and the clown is sitting right in it. However, it's also common to see TR clowns never taking to hosts.

Anemones only move if they are dissatisfied with their current position, something that is likely to happen in an underlit, frequently manipulated LFS tank. In a stable aquarium with its needs provided for, most anemones will wander until they find a good spot and then remain stationary.

BS on the salt mix deal. Reef Crystals claims to have more trace minerals and such, but it's also about half again as expensive. I use IO with no problems.

I thought that didn't sound right what she was telling me so I figured I would go on here and see, you guys always know what you are talking about on here. Thanks for the advice.

She was just trying to get more money out of you. Instant Ocean is fine.

Here is my experiance:

1. FALSE...my maroon took to my CONDY in three days...He was tank raised....

2. TRUE...mine found a spot and hasn't moved in over a month.

3. FALSE...Just buy the supplements and add them in your self.....
I do....

Again, this my experiance with these issues....i may be wrong....but it works for me....:D

Well my response is never shop there again! At least not thru this particular person. At least from what I understand, clownfish are not born with the magic slime that keeps them safe from anemones, but they actually rub the anemones mucous onto them, ever see them kinda bump an anemone a few times and dart off quick when first introduced? Ditto on the anemones moving around, however, some are more noted to doing so more than others. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will go around killing everything in its path. And as far as Instant Ocean, I believe corals were be being raised for quite some time with it before Reef Crystals was even concieved of.
