this may sound retarded but i lost a fish ! i can't find it anywhere, and now two other fish have dropped dead this is a well established group of fish slowley growing into larger aquriums i haven't recently added fish my chemical levels are just fine no sighns of ick and they are not incompatible fish so whats going on? is it possible that the missing fish is dead in there causing problems for my other fishie freinds? i have looked everywhere in a 29 gal aquarium but don't really want to mess with the enviroment to rip it apart and look for fish! also would like to know the name of round shell snails that are slow growing ...had two for some time and one passed but am hesitant to add another of diffrent breed or on that will over populate my tank...don't want fifty but love having them in there they are fun to watch ...

When you say the chemistry is fine, what exactly are the numbers? People lose fish all the time, it's not uncommonc to read about it here at all. There is always a chance that after a fish died, it was consumed by tankmates. If this happened and the corpse had a disease, that may explain the other unexpected deaths. Did you do any gravel vacs and water chanegs after the fish went missing? Also, what all is in the tank and what type of filtration do you use?

im not sure about technical terms so bear with me on this...
filter is double bio wheel with added bio stars and a sponge thing with a black cage? dont know what that is exactly for...i cant believe fish got eaten was there an hour later gone...i have variuos tetras(white and black skirts neons and yellow) a bala shark a snail and a pleco its a twenty nine gal tank with heater temp is faithfully 80degrees and water changes regularly i also vacume twice a week and have driftwood all fake plants and some stones and fake coral...nitrates nitrites and amonias ,phs havent bugged since i set this up a year ago...just he disapeared we just got a kitten but am afraid to blame her but its looking suspicios i know it wasnt the dog lol and it has hood with glass for light with small space about 3 inches in back? thanks for replying!

Well, if it was a jumper, the kitten might have feasted. I am still leaning toward just somewhere dead in the tank or consumed by tankmates. Which fish was the jumper? Bala sharks are famous for taking a header now and again. Also, the other fish deaths are leading me to believe there is something else going on, not a kitten or dog. Again, what were the exact numbers of ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?

after i read your last post i went looking you were correct he was i there it was one of my black shirt tetras under a plant in the back...where my noens frequent and they are what died ...i am changing water and will vacume then test again lol..thanks ...ill let you know my levels once i get them from this test if they are way out of wack ill know i did something wrong but i cant imagine what it would be, no new fish, no new plants and filter was changed last week on fri by the same method i always use by putting it in for two days with old one...

Decomposing fish will pump up your ammonia levels
