i recently emptied a five gallon it only housed two corys for a short period of time my neice loves my aquarium and i am giving her this five gal...what fish do you recomend for such A small tank she is only ten and has no experiance with fish what so ever, she does not have a large enough room to allow a larger tank, i will be setting it up for her ,so its just the basics she will need to learn right now, i was thinking two corys and maybe a couple of noens i know thats alot but i dont think shell be happy with just one betta so please dont suggest that ..so any small fish that might work would be a huge help ...thanks in advance ...i just dont want her to overcrowd because she wants alot of fish to be in there, if i can take her and she can get more than one fish she would be content but i dont want to kill a bunch of fish to make her happy either

Pygmy cories are good for small tanks. They stay smaller than the regular cories, so you can have 3-4 easily. A dwarf gourami would be a good 'centerpiece' fish, and the collisa variety would stay small enough.

Another options would be killi fish--many varieties stay under 1 inch, so a colony of several would make a good species tank.

I'd avoid other live bearers, as well as schooling fish like neons and other tetras. A pair just won't thrive, and it's too small for more than that.

thanks for replying and for the ideas it gives her some options and she can then feel like she had some decisions without them being to detrimental to the fish...i have set this five gallon up like thirty times but never really use it so my sister and i think it would be a great learning tool as well as teaching her responsibillity she gets to enjoy it without the mess of litter training or house breaking..
