View Full Version : Air in my 203

I recently upgraded my 48G tank.
Went from 32W lighting to 80W and added a DIY CO2 generator.
Now most of my plants (mostly anubias and vaslineria) are bubbling away O2 all day long.

Problem is my Fluval 203 keeps making noise. If I tilt it or shake it air comes out. I have checked all of the hoses, connections and changed the O ring that seals the cannister.

The only theory I can come up with is that there's too much "air" dissolved in the water... (wether it's O2 or CO2...) And that the air accumulates inside the impeler chamber of the fluval.
Is that possible ? Anyone with a similar experience ?

Thanks

My 303 does the same thing if I bump it/shake it, etc... I'm not sure what the cause is... maybe there's air trapped in the media, and when you shake the canister, the air gets pumped out.

It has always done that for me also. A little shake gave off a few bubbles but the impeler didn't make any noise, just bubble noise...
I think I'll try to change the impeller. That fluval is about 8 years old I think. Maybe it's due...

Hmm.Yeah, try changing the impeller. Since I bought mine used, for $10.00 :D I changed the impeller, and it works much better. Also, I tipped the canister over a little in each direction, and that seemed to help remove all the air... mine's running much quieter now.

Changed the impeller and although it seemed to be running smoother it still wasn't running how I felt it should.
And since I had checked everything, except for the hoses I decided to clean them...
I just plugged the hose on the faucet of the basement sink. And gave it a good rush of hot water. And a whole lot of gunk came out of one of the hoses.
Plugged it back in and :bowing: there was my old filter running like new again.

So basically a good thorough cleaning would have done the job. But I ended up with a good overhaul of my old 203...
