does anyone have any suggestions on what malawi cichlids to get for a 55g tank? i am purchasing the tank soon, and i would like to know what kind and how many you think would be right for my tank. thanks

Have a look at this: http://www.malawimayhem.com/articles_tank_recipes.shtml

Also look through the species profiles on that site and see what catches your eye. A good idea is also to visit your local pet store and see what they have in stock. Write down some names and come home and see what they will look like when they get older, and if you like them or not. :)

You should be looking for mildly or semi-aggressive mbuna, peacocks (Aulonocara), and some smaller haps (but stay away from the haps if you can help it, they really should have a larger tank). There are many fish that will fit in a 55, but not all together. Some species are not compatible.

Post what ones you like and we will help you decide on some that will go together.

as anyone will tell you, you really need to read and look around and get all the research done if you wanna do it right. get your tank all set up with rocks/caves. as for fish recommendations a few that i've enjoyed are socolofi, red zebras , demasoni , and kenyi .

the kenyi seem more agressive on a regular basis then the others. my personal fav is the socolofi. as they get older(males in my case), they become very beautiful fish. very sharp colors and details. there are MANY other malawi cichlids, but those are a few to check out. enjoy

thanks for all your help guys, as soon as i am able to get this stuff, i will post again with some more questions ;) thanks
