Hi Guys-
I just got an Australian Harlequin Tuskfish. I've read up all about them to prepare myself. I am absolutely in LOVE with him. However, just wanted to ask of those who might know...Is it normal for them to skim back and forth across the surface, partially coming out of the water? He does this regardless of if he's just been fed. I'm worried it's an oxygen thing, though it shouldn't be. Any advice?

Not normal.
If your LFS has a warranty I would return the HTW asap.

Even during the acclimation stage? He seems to be doing fine now. Could it have just been him searching for food?

What size tank are your fish in? Must be pretty big to handle that bio load! Also what are your water quality results (salinity, pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate). Not sure why he is doing it. Could be acclimation, shouldn't be searching for food. They know how to get food from rocks and such and Triggers are the primary ones to spit water at the surface and such (Wrasses and Puffs will do it too but in general not this early on).
