Hello all, new person to forum here..

My Nicaraguenses just spawned and I'm now rearing the fry in a 29 gal. These are definitely my personal fav cichlids. But the question is when the fry are mature enough to move on, how do I go about getting the best deal for my efforts? My plan is to sell them off to stores, I guess, but I don't know what price to ask for and such.

Any ideas? Also, any way to check what prices stores are paying for certain fish? I used to work in a store, but that was a long time ago!!

Thanks!

most places will only give you store credit, unless you know them or sumthing, and when they do give you credit its only like $1 per fish unless they are really rare fish. Some places, like high quality aquariums love to buy from private parties that raise and breed the fish locally, so that they are used to the quality of water already, and do not have to ship in fish from somewhere else.
I sold some blue acaras to some of my local LFS' and i only got $1 store credit per fish that was 2" long!

Well, I hate to sound greedy, as this is a hobby for me. But knowing that the LFS will get $6ish per Nic, I have a hard time with $1 store credit... Oh well, we'll see how it goes. Thanks!

Depending on the size of the fish. Which is key in retail. Especially with cichlids. Bigger is better. Small cichlids don't sell and can be bought for dirt cheap at most regular suppliers.

The only time small guys are taken is if it is something that tends to be rare or hard to get. Then the smalls will gladly be taken.

Our store will give 25% of what the fish will sell for. Sorry but chances of you getting much is probably silm to none. Nics are very common.

Sexing the Nics...

I have a spawn of 35-40 baby nics that are about 1.5 years old and sizes are from 1.25" to 2". My question is when can you tell their sex ??? They all have a dot on the side. Some are definatelly males you can see the dots and the dorsal fin is longer and more color... But I had a larger one that had a stripe on the side and it now disapeared. Where all the others lost the stripe at smaller sizes. I cant possibly have all males !!! Does anyone know what the females look like before they are fully grown ???
